CASITAS

This year LIFO will contribute to a program of upgrading homes for poor families. It is a sort of “Habitat for Humanity” in the D.R.. As you can see from the before and after pictures this represents quite a change by providing dignified homes for these families.  LIFO hopes to participate in this program in the coming year by providing funds for these life changing homes to be built.

Haiti Camp

Last summer LIFO helped sponsor a summer camp for over 600 children in the area of Titanyen, Haiti. The camp was run by Fr, Charles Moise of Fundacion Montesinos. The camp activities included song, dance, flower arranging, sculpture and daily lessons.

Children played, ate and slept for one month in makeshift tents on the grounds of what will become  The Home for Abandoned Children Fr. Pierre Salvetti, OP.

LIFO continues to study how it can best and most effectively help out within the chaos of Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake.

uniforms

In the Dominican Republic a child may not attend school without a uniform. Some parents cannot afford to purchase them so kids go without attending. We recently shipped and distributed 200 sets of uniforms along with schools supplies so that those without uniforms could begin to learn. For the first time LIFO has also begun similar drives in Honduras and Nicaragua.

Cooperadores

LIFO sponsored the education of several community health workers that were trained over a one year period at ILAC, our in country liaison in Santiago. These graduates will now go out into their rural communities and help with issues such as hygiene, sanitation and social awareness. We congratulate these newly formed leaders.
